Charlize Theron - New UN Messenger of Peace
Charlize Theron joins 9 other U.N. Messengers of Peace, who advocate on different issues for the organization. Among them are actors George Clooney and Michael Douglas, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Charlize Theron as a United Nations Messenger of Peace at The United Nations on Monday in New York City.
Focusing on ending violence against women by assisting Ban’s campaign, “Unite to End Violence against Women.”
She agreed with Ban to pressure Hollywood in making more films about social issues. “I don’t necessarily want to forget that my job as an actress is to entertain,”
Theron said. “But let me tell you, there’s a tremendous feeling when you can do it with a sense of responsibility, a sense of truth, with a sense of greater truth, which is not necessarily always good to look at or nice to look at,” Charlize said.
